Companies Entensys and Commtouch since the beginning of August found more than 10 billion e-mail messages containing viruses.
Growth of the average daily amount of such letters reached almost 400%(!). In one of days of August, the number of infected messages amounted to 25 billion. Since then it was noticed still a few flashes of activity of criminals. This situation can already be called a trend.
Various outbreaks are associated with a specific theme, used by criminals:
1. UPS / FedEx - of course, not a new tactic, but still effective. Users receive notifications about the package, which should arrive. More detailed information is contained in an attachment.
2. Card love - relevant information from the sites that offer options of leisure. The attached file is the executive.
3. Error hotels - recipients shall be informed on the erroneous accounts from the hotel. In nested files use special text, which changes the direction of the last 6 letters. Instead Of "cod.exe" the user sees "exe.doc".
An analysis of reports on several forums users allows to make a conclusion that the above methods of successful work.
In spite of the fact that these letters are unwanted, we do not define them as "spam" in connection with the presence of malicious files in the attachment. This is an important distinguishing feature between the spread of viruses and spam mailings, which by definition are intended for the movement of goods.
