Futuremark, Finnish developer of well-known packages to test the performance of graphic accelerators and instrumentation PC, reported on the development of the next version of 3DMark. Working name of the package – “3DMark for Windows 8″. It is designed to compare the gaming performance in the framework of the masses devices running Windows 8 – from the tablets and laptops to high-performance gaming desktop systems.
Jukka Mäkinen, executive director of the Futuremark, says: “WITH the release of Windows 8 users will be able to enjoy their games on a wide range of devices, from small plates to powerful desktop PC. Faced with such a great choice, it will be difficult to determine which of the devices provide the best ratio of price and quality. Fortunately, 3DMark for Windows 8 will be our most versatile 3DMark, able to accurately assess and compare the gaming performance of all devices and a set of graphic functions, available in Windows 8″.
3DMark for Windows 8 will be have the following features:
the evaluation and comparison of gaming performance of all devices running Windows 8;
impressive tests in real time for all levels of equipment;
support both x86 and ARM;
the ability to use both in Metro environments, as in the classical interface of Windows;
the package is being developed in collaboration with leading technology companies.
Currently details are almost there, but Futuremark provided a conceptual figure, about the new benchmark and, obviously, the atmosphere of one of the tests. On it is written in the fire stone warrior-the golem, holding the hands of two glowing sword.
Word on what will be supported by all devices running Windows 8, including decisions on the basis of ARM, say that the company Futuremark in its new package 3DMark was not limited to the support of any particular version of DirectX. It can be assumed that the package will be as tests, working on equipment class DirectX 9, as well as special functions that operate only at the accelerators of the generation DirectX 11.
The company reports that currently 3DMark for Windows 8 is in development, and its output is planned for 2012. While the same can be downloaded from the official site of the old versions of the packages 3DMark 11, 3DMark Vantage or 3DMark06 and test their equipment.
